About AASL

EMPOWERING LEADERS TO TRANSFORM TEACHING AND LEARNING

The American Association of School Librarians (AASL), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), is the only national professional membership organization dedicated exclusively to school librarians and the broader school library community. Through a network of members, volunteers, and 47 state and regional chapters, AASL connects educators, leaders, and advocates who believe school libraries are essential to student learning and success.

AASL supports school librarians in every aspect of their work—from instruction and collaboration to program development, advocacy, and professional growth. The National School Library Standards for Learners, School Librarians, and School Libraries provide a shared framework that helps guide teaching, learning, leadership, and school library practice.

Everything AASL does is powered by its members. Through standards, publications, professional learning, and community engagement, members contribute their expertise and leadership to strengthen school libraries and advance the profession together.
